Simple Valentine's Day Brownie and Craft

Valentine's Day is not a major holiday in the Ward household. That being said I do like to do 2 simple Valentine's Day treats and a small craft with the boys. Today I wanted to share with you a simple Valentine's Day Frosted Brownie Heart with Homemade Cholocate Frosting and a sweet heart print we did a few years back.

The first treat I like to make the boys is a Frosted Brownie in the Shape of a Valentine's Heart. I use a store bought brownie mix but to make it special I make a homemade chocolate frosting. It is so simple but adds the perfect touch! I found my heart shape pan at Target last year but here is a similar pan at a lower in price.

When I frost anything I love using an icing spatula sometimes a special tool makes the difference. I also bake and frost a lot of other baked goods so these Wilton spatulas have come in handy!

Frosting Recipe
4 Tbsp Soft Butter
3 Tbsp unsweetened Cocoa
1/8 Teaspoon Salt
Mix until smooth
1 Cup Confectioners Sugar
1/2 Teaspoon Vanilla
1.5 TBSP Milk
Add half in each time

The boys, big and little, devoured these brownies! I can't wait for you to try them.

Easy Valentine's Day Treats

The second special treat I like to make for the boys on Valentine's Day is Red Velvet Waffles. Again I just use a simple red velvet cake mix and pop it into my Waffle Iron. So simple. I dust the waffles with some confectioners sugar and BAM! Breakfast for V-day.

Valentine's Day Food

A few years back my little guy ( then 2) made some easy heart prints with a paper towel tube and red paint. My youngest loved it. This year we are going to make some cards with the prints on them and distribute them to a local nursing home. When I think about the folks in nursing homes it always breaks my heart especially on a day when you are to be surrounded by love. Here's how we did the heart prints:

Paper towel roll
Paint (washable is preferred! I use Crayola)
Paper plate or surface for the paint

A toddler... of course

Step 1:

Bend the top of the paper towel roll in the center to form a heart.

Step 2:

Tape all the way around the paper towel roll to hold the heart shape in place

Step 3:

Pure some washable paint onto a flat surface, we used a Tupperware lid. Dip the heart shape roll in the paint, and "Print" on the paper!
